Is your laptop or computer too slow? All computers will eventually experience slow performance. Unfortunately, it’s just par for the course with all electronics. While it is unavoidable that your device will one day start being slow, there are a few things you can do to improve its performance and delay the natural wear & tear.

Run A Virus And Spyware Check

Did you know that the program often regarded as the first virus was The Creeper Program, written by Bob Thomas in 1971? Computer viruses have been around almost as long as computers have, and these days all computer-users will eventually have to deal with one. Viruses and spyware are one of the most common reasons for why your device might be working slowly. It’s a good idea to regularly run a check for viruses and spyware on all of your devices, and get rid of the culprits that may be slowing your computer down!

Upgrade Your RAM

Adding more RAM (Random-Access Memory) is a trusted way to improve device performance. If you have a desktop computer, adding more RAM is cheap and easy. If you have a basic understanding of the internal parts of a computer, it shouldn’t take more than an hour to do it. If you don’t, you can get in touch with us and we’ll do it for you. On the other hand, if you have a laptop, adding RAM may be tricky or even impossible. In which case, try the other tips first to speed up your laptop.

Clear Your Browser

If you have been using the same browser for a long time, without deleting the cache, it may be why your device is not performing as well as it should. Try emptying your browser’s cookies and cached images and files (or the entire history if you’re feeling adventurous) and check if that speeds things up.

Uninstall Whatever You Don’t Need

When you get a new device, it will usually come with pre-installed software, including many apps that you will never use. Uninstalling those can help you improve the speed of your device, so go on and delete that app you’ve never used in your life! A disc cleanup is like spring cleaning – it may be a little tedious, but it will make your computer feel refreshed and ready to take on new challenges!

If you have already done the above and your device is still very slow, or if you’re not sure how to follow the tips above, don’t hesitate to contact us for free advice on [email protected] or 01223 240088.
